Designed for field use, the reversible flow Peristaltic Pump from Solinst is ideal for vapor sampling or water sampling from shallow wells and surface water. It can be used for vacuum pumping and for pressure delivery of liquids or gases.

Compact and lightweight, the Peristaltic Pump has no vents, grates or openings. This makes it water resistant, easy to use in the field and easy to maintain and repair. The metal case is extremely robust and water resistant. A handle and one easyaccess control on the top of the pump make it perfect for fieldwork. The pump measures 13” x 5” x 6-1/2” (33 cm x 13 cm x 17 cm) and weighs only 8 lbs (3.6 Kg).

The mechanical peristaltic operation uses rotating rollers to depress the silicon tubing, creating a vacuum, which displaces any fluid or gas in the chosen direction. It is effective to depths up to the suction lift limit, which varies with elevation, and can be as much as 33 ft or 10 m at sea level.

A 12 ft. (4 m) power cord uses alligator clips to allow easy connection to almost any 12 volt DC power source that can supply at least 3-5 amps at maximum draw (such as auto, marine or small gel cell battery). The pump may be connected directly to your vehicle battery. The variable speed motor is reversible, has an easily replaced fuse and has reverse polarity protection to prevent damage to the pump.

IMPORTANT

• Pump is water resistant but not waterproof. Do not submerge in water.

• Pumping rates will decrease with elevation, and as the amount of

lift increases.

• Remove tubing when stored.

• Replace the tubing regularly. The pump will be inefficient if the

tubing is worn. This will show as a limited ability to lift water. If the

tubing looks worn, flattened or cracked, replace the tubing.

• If used in cold weather, ensure that there is no ice in the tubing

before starting the pump.

• Pump is not designed for long-term continuous uninterrupted use.

• To avoid motor damage due to over-heating, allow pump to cool fully

at least every 7 - 8 hours, or more often under high ambient heat

conditions.

Power

The pump operates from an external 12V DC power supply such as a

car, truck or marine 12 volt battery and has a 12 ft (3.6 m) power cable

with connector clips for direct battery connection.

The power cable clips are oversized for use with automotive batteries.

The red clip connects to the positive (+) battery terminal, black to negative

(-) battery terminal. If the battery is connected with reverse polarity

the pump will not be harmed, but it will NOT operate until the polarity

is connected correctly.

An externally accessible fuse holder is located on the side of the pump

case. In the event of a blown fuse due to a stalled pump head, replace

fuse with an 8 AMP, type 3AG (1/4" x 1 1/4") ‘Slo-Blow’ fuse.

Do not use a larger amperage fuse.

If the pump is to be powered by a vehicle battery for more than 3

continuous hours, start vehicle and run for 15 minutes to recharge the

battery.

Operation

• The Solinst Peristaltic Pump has an integral Forward/Reverse,

variable flow dial with an OFF position, which has a central detent.

When turning the unit OFF, ensure you feel the dial snap into

position.

• The pump should always be kept with the control in the OFF

position when it is being attached to a power source or stored.

• Once attached to a power source, turn the dial in the direction

required and adjust the flow as desired.

• The standard 5/8" (16 mm) OD medical grade silicon tubing can

be attached to 1/2" (13 mm) OD down-hole sample tubing and

gives purge rates up to 3.5 L/min and 120 mL/min at the low end.

• The optional 3/8" (10 mm) OD silicon tubing and adaptor kit allows

the use of 1/4" (6 mm) OD down-hole sample tubing, giving flow

rates up to 900 mL/min and sampling rates as low as 40 mL/min.

TUBING

The standard pump tubing is 5/8” OD (16 mm) medical grade silicon, which attaches easily to 1/2” OD (13 mm) down-hole tubing. An optional conversion kit, which allows the use of 3/8” OD (10 mm) tubing, is available to allow lower sampling rates. This tubing attaches easily to 1/4” OD (6 mm) down-hole tubing.

To provide high sample integrity, the sample comes in contact only with the tubing, which is easy to clean or replace. Replacing the tubing between locations avoids the possibility of cross-contamination. To reduce lengthy decontamination procedures, simply dedicate the inexpensive down-hole tubing.

Sampling Rates

The Model 410 Peristaltic Pump has variable pumping rates and can be fitted with 2 different sizes of silicon pump-head tubing. With the standard 5/8” OD (16 mm) tubing it delivers from 120 ml/min to almost 3.5 L/min.

The optional 3/8” OD (10 mm) tubing adaptor kit allows a sample rate as low as 40 ml/min and up to 900 ml/min. This low rate is ideal for low-flow sampling and the filling of small sample bottles.
